A financial adviser’s role, in regard to pensions and investments, has three distinct responsibilities...
1/ to ensure their clients are invested sensibly.
2/ to report to their clients on a regular basis, in an understandable format, giving current values, building a history of returns achieved and comparing these returns to an agreed benchmark, and forecasting future growth and income in a meaningful way...so that their clients can understand whether they are meeting their aims and objectives.
3/ to administer plans on behalf of their clients, provide appropriate advice when required and action clients' requirements appropriately.

There are so many firms that provide financial advice that it is hard to distinguish one firm from another at first sight. But choosing a financial adviser for Pension Advice or Investment Advice can be one of the most important decisions in your life and so you should really do your research carefully and be sure about who you want to work with.

Ask yourself one question - Surely transparency is the most important thing when it comes to your finances - so if looking for advice starts on the web... how transparent is the information available to you on the firm's website? Can you  see the firms advice fees clearly before deciding to contact the firm? Is the firms advice process explained and how practical and transparent are the reports you would expect to receive on an ongoing basis.

Does it allow you to make a realistic comparison at the start of your search? If the firm is not transparent at the start of the relationship then how can you expect it to be transparent as your relationship continues?
